Raising the Dead is excited to return to Grand Rapids and debut in Lansing this summer! On May 21st, we will perform as an acoustic quintet at Mac's Bar from 4-7pm. This will be a benefit for Ukraine, raising money to buy an ambulance. Thanks to Nick Zabrosky for being our promoter for the event. For tickets, email ServeSomebody100@gmail.com or call 517.712.0656.
RTD had their Grand Rapids debut last in January playing for the Griffins Grateful Dead night at the Van Andel Arena. We return to the Furniture City at BIlly's, a legendary East Town bar, on Saturday, July 1 with a $10 cover charge. We hope to see y'all there! photos: William Morgan and Michael Chojnowski On Friday, April 7 2023, the Raising The Dead Acoustic Trio appeared on Grosse Ile, Michigan to lay some heady Dead on an appreciative crowd of Islanders and Mainlanders. The Lenten fish fry was an exceptionally well run operation, the count for the night was 780 people served! Cod, perch, crab cakes, fries, slaw, pizza, incredible desserts, a full bar, all run by volunteers. Since Dave is the choir director at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church, he saw lots of friends who came out to support us and eat. And the show was just fantastic! By the end of the night, we had earned accolades including "the best band we ever had at the fish fry." Stalwart fans Bill Morgan, Michael Chojnoski, and Nick Zabrodsky came out to join us, and we met new fans Faith and Ziggy who were super enthusiastic about our group. Here's the setlist: 4-7-2023 Sacred Heart Church, Grosse Ile, MI I: U.S. Blues, Uncle John's Band, El Paso, Brown Eyed Women, Me & Bobby McGee > Bird Song, Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain II: Touch of Gray, Truckin > Liberty, They Love Each Other, My Sisters and Brothers, Eyes of the World, Gomorrah > A Little Help From My Friends, Box of Rain, Bertha Bill Butler, Matthew Cole, and Dave Martin will perform as the RTD Acoustic Trio at a Good Friday fish fry on Grosse Ile on April 7 from 4-7. For the third month in a row, the RTD Acoustic Quartet has reconvened at the Sardine Room in Plymouth, MI to work our particular brand of unplugged Dead. This time around, we added 4 classic GD acoustic numbers to our set: Shady Grove, Dark Hollow, The Monkey and the Engineer, and the JGB number Midnight Moonlight. The second set was filled with highlights, including an impromptu insertion of the full Dancing in the Streets in the middle of Box of Rain. Brunch was super tasty, thanks to Julia and her staff, and this venue has been a great place to make new fans and entertain old ones alike. This time, the end of our show concluded with a dance party to our encore, Cold Rain and Snow! Thanks to everyone who's come out, look for an announcement on April's show soon. 3-25-2023 The Sardine Room, Plymouth, MI Set I: Bertha, Good Lovin', Shady Grove*, Dark Hollow*, Ramble On Rose, Me and My Uncle, Mama Tried, Looks Like Rain, Monkey and the Engineer*, Midnight Moonlight* Set II: Scarlet Begonias > The Music Never Stopped, So Many Roads, Playin' in the Band > The Wheel > China Doll > Playin' in the Band > Sugar Magnolia > Sunshine Daydream. On Saturday, March 11, the new Raising The Dead returned to Detroit's Cadieux Cafe for a night of heady Deady goodness. This was the first *official* show with our new bandmate Alex Gauthier, who joined our ensemble after our February 25 show at Otus Supply. The first set began with a zippy Bertha and Greatest Story, but really got cooking with Loser, where we extended jams in unexpected places. Lazy Lightning > Supplication was super groovy, and we sealed the set and the Deal with the classic rocker. Second set was a master class in tribute to the masters. Shakedown featured a long jam with Phish-related teases (can you name them?), Let It Grow was simply epic, Terrapin was energetic, and drums showed off Chaim's mastery of the skins and brass. Cryptical > Other One > Wharf Rat > Throwing Stones > One More Saturday Night just needs to be heard to be described. We encored with Brokedown Palace. RTD returns on April 29 at The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. 3-11-2023 The Cadieux Cafe, Detroit, MI I: Bertha, Greatest Story Ever Told, Ramble On Rose, Jack Straw, Loser, Lazy Lightning > Supplication, Deal II: Shakedown Street, Weather Report > Let It Grow, Terrapin Station > Drums > Cryptical Envelopment > The Other One > Wharf Rat > Throwing Stones > One More Saturday Night E: Brokedown Palace Saturday, March 11 is the next chance you have to see Raising The Dead, returning to the site of the recording of our album, Terrapin Stations & Other Ones, the historic Cadieux Cafe. This will be an indoor show (duh) and will feature the debut of our newest member, keyboardist Alex Gauthier. He did play with us at our last Otus Supply gig, safe to say he passed the audition.
Entry is one Hamilton! photos: Michael Chojnowski RTD had an amazing Saturday, playing four sets of music in all. For Saturday night, we were joined by keyboardist extraordinaire Alex Gauthier for a debut of the new 5-piece Raising The Dead. The show was really amazing, with reworked harmonies and a strangely roomy stage (that's what happens with only 1 drum kit!) Little did we know this would be the final performance ever at the hallowed Parliament Room stage. Here's a statement from the band: Raising The Dead is deeply saddened by the unexpected closing of Otus Supply. Founding members Bill Butler and Dave Martin remember attending shows at The Parliament Room as members of a fledgeling band, wishing that we, too could perform on that iconic stage. Our first chance came at the memorial celebration for Theron Hein on 9-11-2019. This was when the band included guitarist Jake Vasquez, keyboardist Max Katz, and drummer Brent Nagy. That night we were very nervous when we took the stage, but we had a great show featuring a sit in with Philip Nathan from Dead Again. Once Jake and Brent had left and Joseph Waldecker and Matthew Cole joined us, we became practically the house band. In fact, over the last 4 years Raising The Dead has played at Otus 25 times, including shows outside in the parking lot tent as owners Thom Bloom and Scott Myrick worked to keep live music alive during the pandemic. The staff at Otus Supply always treated us like kings (thanks Danann, Corey, Chris, Jay, Justin, Stephanie, to name a few) and we've played some of our most iconic shows there. This includes recreating two Grateful Dead albums, Without A Net on 11-29-2019 and Blues For Allah with Colorado drummer Jake Wolf as part of a two-night run on 2-4 & 2-5/2022. For that reason, it is fitting that the final performance in The Parliament Room was Raising The Dead, now featuring Bill Butler, Matthew Cole, Alex Gauthier, Dave Martin, and Chaim Tolwin. We are forever grateful for the jam band scene that was manifested at Otus and the many acts whose shows we attended and shared the stage with. We wish Thom and Scott all the best in their future endeavors. 2-25-2023 The Parliament Room at Otus Supply, Ferndale, MI I: Aiko Aiko, Playin' In The Band > Uncle John's Band > Althea, Cold Rain and Snow, Touch of Grey, My Brother Esau, Ruben and Cerise > Playin' In The Band II: Mississippi Half Step Toodeloo, Franklin's Tower, Feel Like A Stranger, Standing On The Moon, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider > Drum > Space > Dark Star > Saint Stephen > The Eleven > Not Fade Away, Sugar Magnolia E: It's All Over Now Baby Blue photos: William Morgan One more Saturday Brunch! We were thrilled that Julia from the Sardine Room asked us to return for another Saturday brunch gig. In fact, this is going to become a tradition: she's asked for our acoustic quartet to play on the last Saturday of every month. That means you'll have many more chances to come out and have the most incredible food while grooving to the most incredible music. What could be better! 2-25-2023 The Sardine Room Plymouth, MI
